Wood Burned Kitchen Spoons Hip Hop Edition

17th May 2020

I call this post, “Having Wooden Spoons While Bored in Quarantine”.

I had several Target paint dipped wooden spoons laying around that I wanted to practice wood burning on and apparently, now I have the time.

Big Poppa, gangster, hip hop and stove top, and stir crazy in honor of being stuck at home. I have a really basic wood burning tool from Hobby Lobby for 15 bucks and I me likes a lot. You could make a really cute personalized gift with these! If all else fails, rapper spoons will surely be a crowd pleaser.

Have a great day, you gangster.

Derby Stick Horse For School

25th April 2018

Meet Glewco, the almost unicorn derby horse. I don’t know about your school, but at my daughter’s school, you can make the horses look pretty much however. This is what we ended up with….a magical rainbow horse lady.

When I looked on Pinterest, I didn’t see many examples of derby stick horses so I thought I would throw mine out there for an example. I didn’t use any templates or anything sooooooo, it’s not a tutorial but rather something you can knock off!

ALSO, THIS WOULD BE MAGICAL WITH A HORN AND IF YOU MADE A SMALL HANDFUL, SO CUTE FOR A KID’S PARTY FAVOR! You know, puttin’ my party pants out there on that one.

I made this entire horse out of felt, a feather boa, and the insides of an old pillow! I used only scissors and hot glue to put it all together. And of course, a wooden dowel.

Unfortunately, it cost me 26 dollars at Hobby Lobby, which included the price of her t shirt I made “jockey silks” out of. I wish I could wow you and say it was 5 bucks for everything. Boo. The plush fabric for the head was 10 bucks for one sheet which I didn’t see until the register so, dodge that bullet.

Now meet Glewco, named after a diabetic alert dog we know of.  It’s a play off of the word glucose and I think it’s a super cool name.  My daughter has type 1 diabetes, so it was fun and fitting.

I think this horse has a personality.  Just wait til it smiles at you…which is what I feel like it does across the room from me.

She picked out the colors of her jockey “silks” and wanted her geometric shape to be circles because they would look like glucose tabs aka something she may eat for a low blood sugar.  We added the G for Glewco for good measure after I saw some silks with letters on them.  She will wear white fitted pants, tuck in her shirt, and have on knee socks and a jockey hat as well which I have no idea what I’m doing there.

This whole project was maybe an hour max.  I actually really enjoyed it and I couldn’t believe how well it turned out!  Sorry there aren’t any instructions because I made it up as I went.  I hope it inspired some stick horse ideas for your child’s derby or future party favor!

Thanks for looking!  Pin, share, enjoy and follow me on all of my social media accounts!  You a gangsta and I love you.

DIY Christmas Felt Flower Wreath

14th November 2017

I went to Target, like always. I saw stuff in the one spot aisle, like always. I bought it all whether I should have or not, like always. The good news is, as soon as I saw this trim, I saw a wreath in my head! I made all of the flowers myself and added them with the leaf and pom trim from the retail motherland. I put them all together on a branch and twig wreath and there you go! I hope you like it! I have another wreath coming in the next 2 days.  #can’tstopwon’tstop

Transform A Pillow With Paint

17th October 2017

This is really easy to do if you have a pillow that needs a color change!  I had been looking at this pillow I had made on Etsy for one of my daughter’s nurseries and I really didn’t want to part with it, BUT my son probably wouldn’t dig a cranberry pink pillow in his room. You know because 14 month olds have strong decor opinions…  A snail is perfect for any gender room so I took to the paint!  I bought a fabric paint in black, pulled out an old paint brush I use for details, and basically just colored it in like a coloring book!  Whip out cha’ steady hand and treat yo’self to a new pillow!  It’s a lot more affordable than buying new pillows every single time you change a color scheme.

Here it is in process so you can see it going down.  I just followed the lines!

Here it is completed! From pink to masculine and all for the price of a tiny bottle of fabric paint!  Nursery reveal coming next!  You know…since he is over a year old now. Literally, I am still trying to fill out the details.

Spring Felt Flower Wreath

31st March 2016

1-20160331-IMG_4753-002

Me and this wreath fell in love and made heart babies.  This is one of my most favorite wreaths I’ve EVER made.  I love the fuzzy little fern leaves, mix of flowers and bright cheery colors.  I used a stick wreath vs. a covered straw wreath this time and I painted the sticks lightly, as you can see below.  Me likes.

Using a mix of regular old Hobby Lobby felt, good fabric scissors and a lot of that dangerously burning hot glue, I concocted this little wreath baby.

My favorite flowers are the big coral peony lookin’ one and the yellow rolled flowers with dark centers.  They remind me of anemones which makes me smile….big time.  (Even though it’s not really what they look like. I said REMINDS.  Let’s not get too crazy.)

Did you fall in love with this wreath?!?  Just remember, I did too and we made heart children so it would be inappropriate to get too close.  You can still love it from a respectable distance like an old woman Bieber fan.

DIY Spring Gift and Kid Activity: Mini Bird Feeders

29th March 2016

1-20160329_112302

I found this recipe in a Kroger magazine of all places and thought they were easy, cute and fun for kids to make!

For 10 dollars or less, you can make a few shy of 2 million bird feeders.  It’s fast and you can be creative. Shapowzers.  I also used cookie cutters in the shape of trees and houses to make different shapes.  It was easier to fill up and pack down a cookie cutter then to mold them by hand.

Mail a half recipe of the dry ingredients to a friend and her kids as a fun spring craft or package it in a colored mason jar like I did below. Just fill the mason jar in layers of ingredients, just like you would a food recipe in a jar gift. I attached a craft paper envelope with the recipe, as well as an example feeder as decor.  Pretty special, y’all.  Pin, share, and enjoy this craft or easy spring “Just thinking of you” affordable gift!!

Recipe

1 envelope gelatin

1/2 cup warm water

3/4 cup flour

3 TBSP light corn syrup

4 cups wild bird seeds

Yeilds

Apprx 20 wreaths or more!  Whoa mini bird feeders….calm down.

Directions

Mix all ingredients together with a whisk in a mixing bowl.  Add bird seed once everything else is mixed through.  Use a spoon, or ice cream scooper worked best for me, and dollop balls onto wax or parchment paper.  Press down with a large wooden or plastic spoon.  Use finger to make a hole in the center and let dry overnight!  Use ribbon or string to hang your feeders in a semi-sheltered place from rain.  Get your birdie on.

The Cutest Way To Give A Gift Card

10th December 2015

Some people don’t like giving gift cards because they think they are impersonal.  I’m definitely not in that category because nothing gets me going like guilt free money to burn in a store I love!

If you want to add a creative touch or personalize a gift card, why not package it in a really cute way?  Enter mason jars for gift card packaging!  I used the same materials to make my DIY Mason Jar Snow Globes but instead, ditched the glitter and water and affixed a gift card inside.  Using a little hot glue, I lined the bottom edge of a gift card and snuggled it in between craft pine trees.  I put both of the teacher gift-gift card jars side-by-side in a wire basket and personalized each card with a chip board letter that I painted red to match.  My little girl dictated the message inside to her teachers with awesome things like, “Merry Christmas.  I love you.  You look like a candy cane.”

The gift cards were small, but cute and practical and who wouldn’t love to get a gift in something like this? The crafter in me would re-use all of the components if I were to get this gift.  Actually, I think I’ll keep it because I love it.  Just kidding… Or….Okay, I’ll give it to them.

If you are really fun, you can actually make the jars into the snow globe with the gift card inside.  Snow globe gift card packaging?  I might choke on a candy cane I’m so excited about that idea.

Put anything you want in a mason jar to make this packaging party, season, or person specific.  The possibilities are endless!  Here’s to hoping that two pre-school teachers like this gift as much as I do!

In my dreams, I have that pillow-y fake snow in the bottom of this basket.  In my dreams I also don’t take blog images with my cell phone so I guess, we can’t all be winners.

Alone, it’s simple and may need a little pizazz but when packaged with the wire basket and cards, it’s ballin’ out of control.  If only the fake snow…..

DIY Mason Jar Snow Globes

2nd December 2015

1-20141110-IMG_3083-004

Make a craft that makes you look like Martha!  Really, these take no skill!  Anyone can do these beauties. I had a craft party at my house and we all made snow globes and other cute crafts soon to grace this blog!  Thanks to Shelly Griffin Photography for the pretty pictures of these creations.

You will need:

Glitter

Small craft trees {These seen here are from Hobby Lobby, Walmart, & Michael’s.  Yep, I had to go three places to find three sizes. Awesome.}

Mason Jar

Super Glue

Decoupage

Washi Tape if you want to embellish the lid like you see below.

Little deer/bunny/squirrel figurines {I didn’t get them for these jars ,but I die for them!  Check out the dollhouse section of Hobby Lobby for these.)

Steps:

Super glue, not hot glue, the trees to the lid

Decoupage/seal in some way the metal tips of the trees and let dry so they don’t show rust when you look at your tree tops

Put a spoon full of glitter into the bottom of the empty jar

Fill the jar with water

Screw on your lid with attached trees

Shake it like a Polaroid picture

The jar above has tinted water due to the trees bleeding color.  It was a neat accident.  I guess you could always use food coloring if you dig this and your trees won’t share their color. The one below has a lid trimmed with Washi tape.  So cute!
