OBGYN Retirement Party

3rd March 2020

How is this old general store for a piece of Americana?! My Jersey born and raised OBGYN just retired and I was asked to do her retirement party! I know she won’t always live here in KY so I wanted to give her a solid and unique Kentucky party to remember all of her years here by. Meet Boyce General Store! Boyce Store is a running restaurant out in the county that is run by The Pie Queen. She has her pies in some Whole Foods locations and ships all over the nation! She gets the name honest and you should check her out. I literally….literally….ate one whole pie by myself the day after. Sad times. Great pie.

I came up with this wording two years ago when I was first asked to do this retirement party. The wording never gets old. Go-vary….the phrase of the future for all of your reproductive party needs.

These AMAZING truly vintage tablecloths are owned by the Boyce Store and can be used at your event. This store basically decorates itself. There isn’t a more charming venue in town!

I had no idea that sunflowers were my doc’s favorite flower. I just took a guess. Something about the way she gives a pap smears made me think, “Sunflowers. This woman loves sunflowers.”

I added latex gloves because every medical party needs blown up gloves! I first used blown up latex gloves at my daughter’s type 1 diagnosis anniversary, also known as a diaversary!

Those little tiny purple flowers are called wax flower and I love them around a pie and back.

FUN FACT ALERT: The square cake stand to the right was literally Duncan Hines’ cake stand!

We had a mix of homemade pies served with coffee and lemon and lime water. Chess, pecan, derby, brownie, chocolate silk, coconut cream pie, we had them all! They were yummy in my tummy.

“A Sweet Ending” over the pie table and “To A New Beginning” over the drink and scrapbook table. Swoon.

And the ovary puns just don’t stop……

In my hometown there is a bakery that has been here since the 40’s. Their most popular item are their famous tea cookies and they just so happen to be my OB’s favorite. These were supplied by a patient and co-worker who, like all of us, loves her dearly.

I hired a friend of mine to use her machine to cut these Kentucky shapes out of scrapbook paper for me. Also by hired, I mean for free.

I have something cool I’m doing with these now post-party that I will share in a different post.

I created a Facebook group and requested people send me pictures so that I could hang them up at her party.

These pill bottles make my heart soar on the wings of a hundred doves. These were grab and go favors and filled with those little tea cookies I talked about above.

The labels I customized on Etsy from the shop Bsquared and printed them at Staples where I do all of my party printing.

There are very few doctors on planet earth who have patients who love them enough to host a party for them. This woman is one of the finest doctors to practice medicine. She served us all with as much expertise as she did time and empathy. She comforted us through infertility, through loss, and through the magic of delivering our children. Dr. Kasica deserves a hundred parties for every late night call, 2 .am. delivery, thoughtful question, and for every treat she kept for my children and other’s in her office. Twenty five wonderful years of a career and dear lady we got to call our doctor. We love you, Dr, Kasica! Thank you for caring for and loving us well all of these years!
