If you don’t know who Blippi is, he is a YouTuber who makes fun educational videos for kiddos. They don’t have Blippi party supplies yet so if you do a Blippi party, everything basically stems from his outfit, color scheme of his outfit, and some details from the show that your child loves…in our case….diggers and construction vehicles! And…I was supposed to only do cupcakes and family so…nailed it?
I turned the kid’s table into Blippi’s costume with streamer suspenders and a giant felt bow tie and felt buttons. Why? Because felt is a gift from the crafting gods.
I WISH you could have seen the floating glasses in person because I just couldn’t capture it well in pictures. Boooooo. I used fishing line to hang cheap plastic glasses in and around the balloons and they just looked like they were floating! I used an old bag of cheap plastic sunglasses from Amazon, busted out the lenses, broke off the arms, and spray painted them orange! I was probably my favorite thing. Maybe.
Mighty Dollar came correct with napkins and plates in construction theme! Blippi has songs about all sorts of construction vehicles and it makes Crosby’s heart beat to the sound of dirt, rock and engines. Cheap and perfect for this party….this party that I swore would only be cupcakes and nothing else.
Blippi wears an orange bow tie, therefore, so did all of our forks with orange napkins tied with ribbon.
Now these cars, trucks, etc. were the best thing to ever sit on a cupcake to these kids. They are actually small pullback toys and not cupcake toppers so they got to each take home a few of these small toys. I got the whole pack of these pullbacks on Amazon for under 10 dollars. HOLLLERRRRRR! And it still went with the theme soooooo, I’m excited. You could use these cars and construction vehicles for a ton of different parties too, from Easter egg hunts at Easter shindigs, pinatas, or loads of little boy (or girl) party themes.
Okay so truthfully, maybe this is my favorite thing and the floating glasses second. Since there are no such thing as Blippi cake toppers, I screenshotted images of him on Bing and sent them to Walgreens from my good ole celluar device. I printed 4 of each image and cut them out, turning them into cupcake toppers. The huge dancing Blippi is funny to make and I loved having a huge topper because usually, they are tiny old things.
I made his party hat with leftovers of things I had: leftover hat, extra felt from making the table decor, and a small strip of streamer. I mean……
50 cent suckers from Walmart in Blippi colors. All. Day. Long.
“So much to learn about, it’ll make you want to shout….BLIPPI!”
Listen Gertrude, you can make a cute cake for your party. You really can. Check these out and believe in yourself.
I don’t know if it gets easier than putting sprinkles around the cake sides and then picking a cookie cutter of your choice to fill up with sprinkles for a top cake design. EASY!
DON’T GIVE ME THAT! YES, YOU CAN MAKE THIS CAKE! Think about it…the cake itself is messy iced layers. You don’t even have to ice the outside which can drive a sane man made. Trust me, I use to sell cakes. I have been that man. Stack a cake icing between layers and then use LEMONHEADS and REAL FLOWERS. That takes no artistry because you didn’t make those suckers! Add some candles, sprinkles or chocolate chips to the top and you can replicate this cake just like this or with your own twist! Personally, I love this cake so hard.
BETTY, BETTY CALM DOWN! Yes, you can. Where has your self-esteem gone? Ice a cake, use M & M candies for the border, paper straws, toilet paper tube covered in scrapbook paper for the center post, and to make it easier, do this cake on a smaller scale and use a party hat to be the carousel top. Add some plastic dollar store figures and guess what? I told you so, Betty.
Cute alert. Sprinkles, plastic animals and rad sparkler or letters/numbers on picks and you, buddy, are winning. Oh, and the tiny party hats….you can Pinterest that but it’s as simple as cutting out a shape in paper, rolling it up, gluing it, and adding a pom-pom. You are basically Martha Steward. Yeah not Martha Stewart. Martha Steward. But she is close to Martha Stewart, just like you’ll be….when you make this cake.
Formula: Pre-tubed black icing you can buy in any grocery store, Wal-Mart, you name it. One lonely pink jelly bean and marshmallows. Baa Baa black sheep have you any wool? No, I have marshmallows. I’m better than you.
If you are really losing faith in yourself, just stack up some brownies or doughnuts please and some sort of detail. Then when you are done, tell me how you really spell doughnut/donut. I don’t know.
If you can’t ice a white cake, add paper ears, and ice a few semi-circles with pre-tubed icing, just go ahead and shut your phone off. I think we need to see other people.
Print off a design from your computer, order a customizable printable from Etsy or make your own with scrapbook paper and numbers/letters. Attach whatever you make or buy with fun paper straws and you are a party super queen! Those big pearl sprinkles you can buy most anywhere and just stick you some on thur’, gurllll. You done. I’m done, y’all. Pin, share , enjoy and follow me on all of my social media accounts.
Okay so, check it. My sister made copies of handwritten recipes that my grandmother had written for me, my sisters and my mom for Christmas. I’ve framed them for my kitchen and I LOVE it!
So this is a double whammy: awesome gift idea AND crazy cheap and sentimental home decor! I adore it! What do you think?
Soooooo it was a chocolate party this year for my sweet newly 4 year old! Last year, she had a ketchup and french fry party and wanted to play it close to the food game again with a chocolate party. I figured this party had been done a thousand times and every where on Pinterest and strangely, naw girl. Take a gander of this party! Hopefully it will inspire someone else who fancies chocolate as much as my girl does. (Like me….for example.)
I borrowed tons of things and got a load of stuff from the dollar store! You can rock this party, or any of it’s details, on a budget!
“Real food” hot fudge slime was the prize from a scratch-off game the kids played! Looks like hot fudge, smells like hot fudge, packaged like hot fudge but it’s not. I bought cute clear favor boxes, filled them with chocolate brown paper shred and my favorite…made bows from Hershey wrappers! I sliced the back seam of a chocolate bar off, removed the chocolate, (ate it…both of them…none of your business), and tied the center with some small white rope trim. Holler if you hear me.
I bought these scratch off game cards from Target in the one spot aisle months ago. I didn’t have a purpose for them yet, but homie, I was about to find a way. I bought a brown sharpie and added chocolate topping and sprinkles to take it from an ice cream party to a chocolate themed party treat. Easy, cheap, cute and, again, did I say easy?
I love to customize invites and typically, I look to Etsy but I just couldn’t find anything I was crazy about. Zazzle is another great site to make or customize anything under the sun and I found these precious invites there! I got them on a site wide sell for 40 percent off so yeah, I was super happy!
Alert the media! I made these cupcake toppers last minute by just jabbing candy with a toothpick or plopping a chocolate covered pretzel on top of the yummy marshmallow frosting. How cute did they turn out????!!!!
One of my first “visions” for this party was creating drip tablecloths. I bought brown, round tablecloths and cut the drips into the cloths AFTER I put them on. I would estimate that each table took me 10 to 15 minutes. Not too bad and was PERFECT for the theme. As always, these are just dollar store tablecloths. Can’t beat it. I’m trying to be creative, not Martha lol.
I purchased a jumbo paper craft 4 from Hobby Lobby, painted it and used fine glitter and glue to cover it in “chocolate”. Supercalafragalisticexpealldohshish.
Etsy did pull through major on these party favor boxes! These came from Paper Glitter on Etsy. If you want to get some for yourself, just click on their name and I linked it there! I printed them off at a family member’s office and purchased the whole file with several different type of drink box favor files for only 5 bucks! I folded each of them to construct them and wasn’t as tedious as you would think. I hot glued them all together to hold their form because hot glue is the gift from the heavens of crafts. You can totally use double-sided tape though.
Each box had a few chocolates and these dollar store chocolate scented and flavored chapsticks. When I found theses guys, I was so excited and bought 11! The boy favor boxes had chocolate drizzled characters that you squeeze and their eyes pop out because, you know, boys.
We had to have chocolate milk at this party, of course. I wish these were cheaper, but I just couldn’t pour milk from a gallon like some sort of party barbarian. I needed the cute cartons for decorations. #should’vegonetoSam’s
Mixing bowls, foil, ribbon and scrapbooking letter stickers = giant Hershey kiss decorations!
I should take this time to tell you that Mendel rhymes with spindle. You know, just in case you said MenDELL and a piece of me died inside.
Little plastic paint palettes make the world’s cutest tray for cupcake toppings! You can get a 12 pack for under 9 bucks! There was no cake at the party; just a stand and decorate your cupcake tables. My girl would decorate it, lick off the toppings and redecorate it. Work. the. system.
Hope you liked this chocolate goodness! Follow me on my social media accounts and on here for more ways to put on those party pants!
Disney Zombies movie has been a huge hit, but it’s so new, there is nothing available! While character and movies arent exactly my favorite themes….I figured I’d help someone out in my boat and share my ideas. Let’s start with my favorite part: cheerleader blow pop suckers! Play up the cheer theme side for easier DIYs. These suckers were little party favors and they are awesome! Get a bag of Blow Pops, pipe cleaners, ribbon, a bag of pompoms, and hot glue and gurllllll, you good!
For display, I got this super cheap cake pop stand from Hobby Lobby for less than 4 bucks. They were a booger and a half to make stand up because they were top heavy so I ended up hot gluing them into the holes. Next time, I’ll buy a real deal cake pop stand because there are some awesome ones out there.
ALWAYS look on Etsy for hard to find theme items. Disney Zombies is so new so there is next to nothing you can find in this theme. Etsy never fails and pulled through with this edible cake image. You can also customize it as well to add names etc. I bought mine from funtoppers4cakes on Etsy. It was less than 10 bucks all in and ANYONE can put these babies on.
This candleabra candle holder does something joyful to my eyeballs. I purchased it on clearance a few years ago from Target and then was lucky enough to run across a few more for a dollar each on double clearance! I love it because it is perfect for princess parties to tweens and teens. It makes my heart sing. Walmart has a cheaper version you can buy right now in their party aisle.
Again, Disney Zombies is heavy with the cheerleading deets so anything cheer will do for a Zombies party. I used a one dollar plastic tablecloth, cut it in strips, tied them to a ribbon and made them into pompoms to hang. Cheap and I didn’t have to search for the right color pompoms because I made my own!
GREEN hairspray for the win for the Zombie theme. This stuff was great and didn’t transfer on to anything. It washes out with shampoo. I bought mine at Walmart in the party aisle for just a few bucks each.
We did a DIY candy necklace bar because I LOVED it as an activity for my 2nd daughter’s Lalaloopsy party last year. I am always down for an activity that can also second as a take home party favor! It has nothing to do with Zombies, but it’s the cutest party activity on planet earth.
This is so simple, but sometimes, even details people need a breather, haha. Eventually, kids ask for a movie/character party and well…so be it! Party on, Wayne. Party on, Garth.
Meet Glewco, the almost unicorn derby horse. I don’t know about your school, but at my daughter’s school, you can make the horses look pretty much however. This is what we ended up with….a magical rainbow horse lady.
When I looked on Pinterest, I didn’t see many examples of derby stick horses so I thought I would throw mine out there for an example. I didn’t use any templates or anything sooooooo, it’s not a tutorial but rather something you can knock off!
ALSO, THIS WOULD BE MAGICAL WITH A HORN AND IF YOU MADE A SMALL HANDFUL, SO CUTE FOR A KID’S PARTY FAVOR! You know, puttin’ my party pants out there on that one.
I made this entire horse out of felt, a feather boa, and the insides of an old pillow! I used only scissors and hot glue to put it all together. And of course, a wooden dowel.
Unfortunately, it cost me 26 dollars at Hobby Lobby, which included the price of her t shirt I made “jockey silks” out of. I wish I could wow you and say it was 5 bucks for everything. Boo. The plush fabric for the head was 10 bucks for one sheet which I didn’t see until the register so, dodge that bullet.
Now meet Glewco, named after a diabetic alert dog we know of. It’s a play off of the word glucose and I think it’s a super cool name. My daughter has type 1 diabetes, so it was fun and fitting.
I think this horse has a personality. Just wait til it smiles at you…which is what I feel like it does across the room from me.
She picked out the colors of her jockey “silks” and wanted her geometric shape to be circles because they would look like glucose tabs aka something she may eat for a low blood sugar. We added the G for Glewco for good measure after I saw some silks with letters on them. She will wear white fitted pants, tuck in her shirt, and have on knee socks and a jockey hat as well which I have no idea what I’m doing there.
This whole project was maybe an hour max. I actually really enjoyed it and I couldn’t believe how well it turned out! Sorry there aren’t any instructions because I made it up as I went. I hope it inspired some stick horse ideas for your child’s derby or future party favor!
Thanks for looking! Pin, share, enjoy and follow me on all of my social media accounts! You a gangsta and I love you.
Notoriously, I have the world’s worst lighting in my house, but a home girl tries. This is the most light in any room so, take what yo’ momma (mother nature) gave ya. Without further adieu, here is my son’s small 10 by 11 nursery, complete with 6 ish DIY projects!
Greens, some blue and a pop of yellows with white walls and a subtle gray ceiling. This boss simple clean lined crib is solid wood, down to the slats. If you thought most cribs were all wood, think again, Sparky AND I got it for 100 dollars on a closeout. Holler if you’re a baller!
(Hollering in the background…)
It’s compact and great for a small space. Good job, tree, that became this crib. You did a real swell job.
Just breath it in, because I like this wall. FUN FACT ALERT: The framed dino up there is a toy I used for his Lochness Monster 1st Birthday party. It floated in a large bowl of chocolate milk like Nessie in the Lochness Strait of my dreams. I used Velcro Command Strips to put him up there floating in the middle and used an old wood frame to go around him. Fun for days.
In the bottom left, those are his hospital footprints…at least I hope or that would be weird. No, they are. I was there. And in the top right, that is sheet music from a hymn by Fanny Crosby, the greatest hymn writer of all time. That is where we got his name, Crosby. Nope, it wasn’t from Parenthood, though that show was THE best.
I bought the cactus print 2 years ago during my pregnancy, along with the raccoon print off of Etsy. Gotta love Etsy. The globe which tied in all of my colors was purchased from a consignment shop. It was an old globe from a school. Neato.
The hat is my grandfather’s and I love seeing it in his room. He wore this hat and ones like it all of the time. Surprisingly, even with it on the edge of the wire basket we use for diapers, it never gets in the way. It’s like a magic polite hat.
OH Bertha. I bought a gumball machine, which I have always wanted, from Hobby Lobby, which is also where this polyresin Octopus came from. I took out the guts of the gumball machine and added rocks and a succulent. I give it 2 thumbs up.
I LOVE using old buffets in kid’s rooms as dressers and I have them in 2 of my children’s rooms currently. The doors on the side give great extra storage! This was an 80’s honey wheat wooden buffet I purchased from a cool consignment store in town for 90 ish bucks. I painted it white, sprayed all of the original hinges and pulls and then added the round, flat brushed gold knobs to the doors. I hate painting furniture, but I love when it’s done!
This green super cute bookshelf was old, layered in orange and black chipped paint and about to be trashed. I thought the lines of it were so cute so i did what any good DIY-er does and sanded it to be painted…and then my husband hit it with his car.
(dramatic pause)
I hammered some nails in to straighten it up and all’s well that ends well.
This print is the very first thing I bought when I found out I was having my 1st son. Go Hobby Lobby, it’s your birthday. We’re gonna party like it’s your birthday. The basket is from there also and the lamp, is from God’s country: Target.
I bought a Jelly Cat Alligator because we call my son, Crosby Ryle Crocodile. I know, I know, it’s an alligator, not a croc! What are you? Steve Irwin?
Do you love this dinosaur terrarium???!!! I thought i came up with this idea and then I found some on Pinterest. Boo. Since it wasn’t my idea, I decided to copy the rock pattern I saw in someone else’s post to ease the burn and enjoy it anyways.
I sprayed painted tiny dinosaurs we got from goody bags at parties and I got the big dino from a dollar store because hey, dollar store. The succulents are from Hobby Lobby.
When it all came together, I wished for a moment that dinosaurs weren’t extinct.
Rest in peace, brothers.
This wall hook was something I bought when this was my daughter’s nursery. I spray painted it blue back then and decided to keep it in all of it’s glory. I always hang a favorite outfit on it and admire their cute teeny clothes. I wanted a cute hanger to put it on but there isn’t a large market for cute display baby hangers so, we deal and accept that ain’t nobody got no kinna time to worry about a hanger.
The door knob is from the greatest DIY bloggers of all time, Young House Love. They did a run at Target a couple of years ago and angels sang.
THIS PIC IS THE WORST ALERT! A bit blurry, bad light, so let’s just use it! I wanted you to get a feel for how small the room is and I was going to jump off my roof if I had to take anymore pictures. You get the idea.
The closet knobs are a natural wood here and dimensional and cute. The end.
I made these curtains for under 20 bucks for 2! I got a mega deal for 5 bucks a panel at Target and then I bought large width ribbon from Michael’s and hot glued them on in large chunky stripes. Hey, hey! Cute and clean like I like it!
This big print is a DIY and I made it all myself!!!! It is my proudest art/DIY I’ve done because letters/spacing are harder than passing kidney stones. I have a post that I’m working on just for this print. This is a page from the classic book The Giving Tree and it strums all of the strings of my heart.
This is crib sheet is from Land of Nod because, it’s Land of Nod, my favorite one stop high quality and cute design kid’s decor and furniture.
I got this huge 8 by 10 big daddy rug from where I buy ALLL of my rugs, Overstock. I got this big colorful rag rug for about 60 bucks, shipped! It was better in person than on-line. If you have a really high traffic area, I don’t recommend it because you can’t really vacuum it and it can get pulls. Just ignore that I said all of that though because it’s colors perfectly tied in the room and it’s comfy under your feet.
This is the room dweller himself, sniffing or choking his “crocodile”. I’m not sure which. It’s his room. He does what he wants.
THINGS STILL LEFT TO DO:
Add a blanket to hang over the crib
Put out a cute sloth that Santa is bringing him
(I’m never REALLY done, it seems like.)
Pin, share, enjoy and following me on all of my social media accounts using the buttons in the right side bar. You are the wind beneath my wings.
I went to Target, like always. I saw stuff in the one spot aisle, like always. I bought it all whether I should have or not, like always. The good news is, as soon as I saw this trim, I saw a wreath in my head! I made all of the flowers myself and added them with the leaf and pom trim from the retail motherland. I put them all together on a branch and twig wreath and there you go! I hope you like it! I have another wreath coming in the next 2 days. #can’tstopwon’tstop
Do you have a child OBSESSED with LOL Surprise Dolls? Yeah, me too. Three of them. My oldest child asked to be an LOL ball for Halloween and a doll coming out of the ball. I love something different so I was on board. They don’t sell that so I got to makin’ one!
For those of you who don’t have girls who watch toy videos on YouTube, this is what we were imitating. We were doing the actual package and the girl she picked.
Depending on the series of the ball, different girls are on different balls so this isn’t the exact one we went with.
Buy the color acrylic craft paint for the color of ball you want and apply it with a sponge brush. Then get a sheet of white computer paper (it bends easier on the ball), a black Sharpie, and your laptop. This is a hack that I came up with and use anytime I need a logo like I did here with the Playdoh costume. Google an image, blow it up on the screen to the size you need and trace it with the paper right on your computer screen! Sometimes you need to turn the lights out so that the image will shine through your paper to be traced. Color and cut out that bad boy! I printed out the image of the doll and free-handed the unbox me word bubble. For the bar code on the back, I traced a greeting card with a Sharpie to make the shape and then used the edge of the card to make straight lines for the bar code itself. So easy!
Arrange the images on the ball loosely with tape and once you get the right placing, use a hot glue gun to adhere edges to the ball but only in key spots where needed. You can’t make the image lay perfectly flat without creasing so apply glue dots only where needed.
Once you are happy with your ball layout and it’s all attached, cover both halves in shrink wrap to make it look like the packaging! I LOVED this detail and thought it made it look realistic AND it protected the paper images. What??!!!??? Oh yeah, girl. Once you have the ball wrapped, you use a blow dryer and hold it about 3 inches away and make it shrink around the edges. It is pretty fun to do. I was like, “What else can I shrink wrap? Hmmmmm….”
Last step in the ball is attaching the ribbon to make it wearable. You will need 4 strips of ribbon and how long, depends on your child. You can have someone help you hold the ball half to the front of your child to gage. Use two strips to connect the 2 halves to sit on the shoulders like a tank top would fit. (See pics below) This way they can slide it right over their head easily. I use hot glue to do this step like most steps because hot glue is a gift from the craft heavens.
To complete the ball, put trips, one on each ball under the arms a bit so that they can be tied together, side to side, to keep the ball in place. You can see this in the last very sub-par picture of my daughter in her school costume parade.
I DID THIS CHEETAH PRINT BY HAND WITH A SHARPIE BECAUSE I CLEARLY HATE MYSELF! Don’t do it. I thought it wouldn’t take that long…hours later with regret and carpal tunnel….I was big time wrong. I bought a white shirt from Wal-Mart, went to town with the Sharpie, and cut a sleeve off to look like Diva’s bodysuit. Using pink craft foam, you know the stuff in the kid craft aisles, I cut out a belt shape, drew on the details, and attached it to the shirt with hot glue. I did the same thing for the foam bow which I glued on a cheap headband. I added Wal-Mart glitter pants and some black boots and she was as Diva as you can get appropriately for an 8 year old knocking off a weirdly dressed toddler Lol doll.
We came, we saw, we LOLed and her costume was a big hit! Pin, share and enjoy and follow me on all of my social media accounts using the icons in the right sidebar. See ya round!
HOLD up! Baby Noah up in hur’! I was a little torn on whether or not to do this because Noah is well known, but I settled on it because the costume is really uncommon! The whole look was less than 15 bucks and it was easy to do. Just kidding. I sawed off plastic animal heads with a serrated bread knife and, this just in, they aren’t made for cutting hard plastic. Also, it was a DREAM to transport. Also, just kidding. That awesome cloud contraption was a butt-head!
Here is he is and how I did it! Pin me for next year!
NOPE, not a Star Wars character! Once he was in the ark, there was no mistaking him! I put him in regular neutral clothes he already had and added a toddler brown t-shirt I cut into a robe, and rope trim from my gift wrapping bucket! Price of costume: ZERO dollars.
All of the animals are from Wal-Mart or the dollar store. You can find these year round so work your Noah whenever you want. A little hot glue and a black “doorway” colored onto the wood plank poster board and you are super cute and good to go.
The ominous grey cloud and rain! I made the cloud using the insides of a cheap pillow (cheaper than buying polyfil), 57 cent dowels, spray adhesive and foam board. I made dowel holes and filed them with hot glue and pushed the dowels slightly through the foam board. Once the glue was set, I reinforced it with more glue globs. Next, I cut open a pillow I bought for 2 bucks and some change, sprayed the foam board with spray adhesive and started filling the board with fluff! It was really fast and anyone can do it.
To make the rain drops, I cut blue felt into drops and attached them to the ends of white rope trim using hot glue and then glued the opposite ends to the foam board. I placed them evenly staggered (oxymoron?) and at varying heights.
Once that was all done, I attached the dowels to the wagon with extra strength clear packing tape and fit them snuggly in next to the seats. Can I get an amen? It was actually really sturdy!
To make the wagon look like an ark, I wrapped it in wood plank poster board from Hobby Lobby and cut an ark shape with cardboard and then covered that with the plank poster as well. Both sides of the ark had different animal heads and I just colored black windows with a Sharpie and hot glued the animal head on that I had cut-off with a knife. I cut my finger too, right after I burned it with hot glue. It’s hard being crafty sometimes.
I attached the ark shape board using zip ties on each end, attaching both side around the seats with string.
